Vitamin E is an essential antioxidant that helps maintain the health of your immune system, skin, and eyes. At the blood analysis laboratory in Belgrade, IntroLab, we offer a vitamin E analysis that allows you to monitor your levels of this important vitamin.
When is a vitamin E analysis indicated?
A vitamin E test is recommended when there are symptoms that may indicate a deficiency of this vitamin. These symptoms can include:
- Problems with coordination and balance
- Muscle weakness
- Vision problems
- Weakened immune system
- Irregularities in nervous system function
Additionally, individuals with certain health issues such as cystic fibrosis, liver diseases, celiac disease, and certain types of anemia or who are on special dietary regimes may be at higher risk for a vitamin E deficiency.
Interpretation of vitamin E blood test results
The results of the vitamin E analysis are usually expressed in micrograms per deciliter (mcg/dL). Reference ranges can vary slightly between different laboratories, but generally, levels between 5.5 – 17 mcg/dL are considered normal.
- Levels below 5.5 mcg/dL may indicate a vitamin E deficiency.
- Levels above 17 mcg/dL are rarely encountered but may indicate excessive intake of vitamin E.
Your doctor will help you interpret the results and will recommend appropriate steps for further testing or treatment.
