What does the ROMA index represent?<\/h2>\n

The ROMA index, or the Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm<\/strong>, is a mathematical model used to assess the likelihood of ovarian cancer in women. This model is based on measuring the concentration of two blood biomarkers – HE4 protein and Cancer Antigen 125 (CA 125). Considering a woman’s menopausal status and these values, the ROMA index provides an estimation of the risk of ovarian cancer.<\/em> HE4 is a protein that is commonly found in high concentrations in women with epithelial ovarian cancer.<\/p>\n

What is the purpose of measuring the ROMA index?<\/h2>\n

The ROMA index serves as a crucial tool in diagnosing and monitoring various diseases, as well as assessing the functionality of vital organs. It is particularly important in the context of epithelial ovarian carcinoma, where the HE4 protein is used in combination with CA-125<\/strong> to monitor patients who have been treated for this type of cancer. For HE4 to be effective as a tumor marker, its concentration must be elevated before the start of treatment.<\/p>\n

How are the results interpreted?<\/h2>\n

Based on the values of the ROMA index, an assessment is made as to whether the patient has ovarian cancer and whether they fall into the low or high-risk group for this disease. The reference interval is indicated on each validated report, and the values vary depending on whether the woman is in the pre or post-menopausal period.
