Identifying this bacterium is crucial for timely treatment and preventing potential complications. <em>The Chlamydia Trachomatis (Dif) test is used to detect the presence of this bacterium in samples.<\/em> It is part of a wide range of tests offered by <a href=\"https:\/\/staging-introlab.dev-digitaldot.com\/en\/\">IntroLab<\/a> laboratory in Belgrade.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What is Chlamydia Trachomatis?<\/h2>\n<p>Chlamydia Trachomatis is a bacterium responsible for the infection known as chlamydia. <strong>It is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection worldwide.<\/strong> Although it can cause symptoms, many people are unaware they are infected because it often shows no signs.<\/p>\n<h2>Symptoms of Chlamydia Trachomatis infection<\/h2>\n<p>The symptoms of chlamydia can differ between men and women:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Burning sensation during urination<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>White, clear, or watery discharge from the penis<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pain or swelling in the testicles<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Women<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Burning sensation during urination<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lower abdominal pain<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pain during sexual intercourse<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bleeding between menstrual periods or after sexual intercourse<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Unusual vaginal discharge<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How is the Chlamydia Trachomatis (Dif) test performed?<\/h2>\n<p><em>The test uses a patient sample, most commonly a swab.<\/em> At IntroLab, the sample is tested to detect the presence of Chlamydia Trachomatis. This method employs <strong>direct immunofluorescence (DIF)<\/strong> to identify bacterial antigens.<\/p>\n<h2>Why is it important to perform this test?<\/h2>\n<p>Chlamydia Trachomatis can cause a range of symptoms but often occurs without any. If untreated, it can lead to serious health issues. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent complications.<\/p>\n<h3>Complications of untreated or inadequately treated Chlamydia<\/h3>\n<p>If chlamydia is not treated, it can cause various complications in both genders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In women:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chlamydia can spread from the cervix to the fallopian tubes, leading to <strong>pelvic inflammatory disease<\/strong> (PID). PID can cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, resulting in pelvic pain, infertility, or ectopic pregnancy.<\/li>\n<li>Untreated chlamydia can lead to<strong> scarring of the fallopian tubes<\/strong>, making it difficult or impossible for the egg to travel from the ovaries to the uterus, resulting in infertility.<\/li>\n<li>Women with chlamydia are at a <strong>higher risk of contracting HIV if exposed to the virus.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Infected pregnant women have a <strong>higher risk of preterm delivery,<\/strong> and the infection can be passed to the newborn during delivery, potentially leading to conjunctivitis or pneumonia in the baby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In men:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Epididymitis,<\/strong> which is inflammation of the epididymis (the tube where sperm is stored), can occur, causing pain, swelling, and, in rare cases, infertility.<\/li>\n<li>Although less common, chlamydia can cause <strong>reactive arthritis<\/strong>, a condition affecting the joints, eyes, and urethra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given these potential complications, <em>sexually active individuals need to get regularly tested for chlamydia and other sexually transmitted infections,<\/em> especially if they have new or multiple sexual partners.
