Vitamin H, also known as biotin or vitamin B7, is crucial for the health of the skin, hair, eyes, liver, and nervous system. The analysis of vitamin H is available at our private laboratory in Vračar, IntroLab. This analysis allows you to check your biotin levels, providing essential information for maintaining optimal health.

When is a vitamin H analysis indicated?

An analysis of vitamin B group, or vitamin H, is usually recommended when a patient shows symptoms of biotin deficiency, including:

  • Hair loss or brittle hair
  • Red, rash-covered, or dry skin
  • Blurred vision or double vision
  • Muscle weakness or pain
  • Anemia
  • Sleep issues
  • Depressive mood

This blood analysis may also be recommended for individuals with specific dietary needs, chronic diseases, or those taking certain medications that can affect biotin absorption.

Interpretation of biotin blood test results

The results of the vitamin H analysis are usually expressed in nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). The normal range can vary, but the generally accepted range is:

  • Normal: 200-400 ng/dL
  • Low level: Less than 200 ng/dL
  • High level: More than 400 ng/dL

If your biotin levels are below the normal range, it may indicate a vitamin H deficiency. Biotin deficiency can be caused by inadequate intake of biotin, genetic disorders affecting biotin metabolism, or certain medications.

If your biotin levels are above the normal range, it may indicate excessive biotin intake. Although biotin toxicity is not common, excessive use of biotin supplements can lead to side effects. Some of the more common side effects are dermatitis, alopecia, neurological difficulties, growth disorders in children, weakened immunity, anemia, and some lipid metabolism disorders.
