At IntroLab laboratory in Belgrade, our expert team is dedicated to providing accurate and reliable results for UBC (urinary bladder) analysis. Our mission is to offer quality services that help our patients take control of their health.

What is UBC (urinary bladder) analysis?

UBC analysis is a test that detects soluble fragments of cytokeratins 8 and 18 in urine. Cytokeratins 8 and 18 are proteins that play an active role in tumor invasion. This analysis is performed in the laboratory and can provide useful information about the presence and progression of bladder cancer. Through this analysis, doctors can gain insight into the condition of the patient’s bladder, allowing for more precise diagnosis and more effective treatment.

Why is measuring this parameter important?

Bladder cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the urogenital system. Early detection of this type of cancer can significantly improve prognosis and treatment outcomes. UBC (urinary bladder) analysis allows for the early detection of bladder cancer, even before symptoms appear.

When is it necessary to perform this test?

UBC analysis is recommended for individuals who have an increased risk of developing bladder cancer. This includes:

  • People who have been exposed to certain chemicals at work
  • Smokers
  • Individuals with chronic urinary tract infections
  • People who have a family history of bladder cancer

Additionally, this test can be used to monitor patients who have already been diagnosed with bladder cancer, to track the effectiveness of treatment, and to detect possible recurrence of the disease.

How are the results interpreted?

The results of the UBC (urinary bladder) test are interpreted based on the levels of cytokeratins 8 and 18 in the urine. Elevated levels of these proteins may indicate the presence of bladder cancer. However, it is important to note that elevated levels of these proteins do not necessarily mean that a person has cancer – they can be elevated for other reasons as well. Therefore, the results of UBC analysis are always interpreted in the context of other diagnostic tests and clinical information.
