At the IntroLab laboratory in Belgrade, we offer analysis of Ryegrass, English grass G5. This test is particularly important for diagnosing seasonal allergic symptoms and provides you with all the necessary information for effectively managing your allergy.
What is Ryegrass?
Ryegrass (Lolium perenne), also known as English grass, is often used for lawns and sports fields. The pollen of this grass can be a potential allergen, especially during the spring and summer months.
How does an allergy develop?
Allergic symptoms of ryegrass begin when the immune system incorrectly identifies the pollen of this grass as an invasive element. In response, the body produces immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies, which trigger the release of chemicals such as histamine and leukotrienes, causing allergy symptoms.
When is the Ryegrass G5 analysis recommended?
Allergy testing for ryegrass is recommended if you experience seasonal symptoms such as:
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Itchy eyes
- Breathing difficulties
This test is especially useful if you have previously had allergic reactions to other types of grass or pollen.
Interpreting the results
Specific IgE antibodies in serum (class 2 or higher) indicate an increased likelihood of allergic disease. However, it is important to consider the patient’s overall clinical picture when interpreting the results, as measurable levels of IgE antibodies may exist even if there is no clinically significant sensitivity to allergens.
