Protein S plays a crucial role as a cofactor of Protein C, contributing to the regulation of coagulation processes in the blood by acting as an anticoagulant. This test is recommended for people who have had thrombosis, as well as their family members. This test, available at IntroLab, is part of a wide range of blood tests and helps in better understanding your health. At IntroLab, the cost of Protein S and C tests is affordable, making them accessible to everyone.
When is a Protein S test indicated?
A Protein S test is important for individuals with a tendency to form blood clots or who have close relatives with this predisposition. This test is specifically recommended when there is suspicion of:
- deep vein thrombosis
- disseminated intravascular coagulation
- recurrent spontaneous miscarriages
- pulmonary embolism
- conditions associated with liver diseases
Special Notes
Individuals who have had thrombosis must strictly follow medical advice before undergoing a Protein S test, as a certain period needs to pass before the test can be conducted.
Similarly, those on anticoagulant therapy should follow their doctor’s instructions before the test. In some situations, it may be necessary to temporarily stop the therapy.
