Stool analysis
IntroLab laboratory in Vrachar conducts a set of stool analyses, including a stool test for occult bleeding. This test allows us to detect the presence of blood in the stool that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
The occult blood test is an important diagnostic tool used in the early detection of gastrointestinal diseases such as polyps, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and malignant tumors of the digestive tract.
Why is the stool test for occult bleeding important?
The Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) is a significant test used for screening cancer, precancerous conditions, and other digestive tract conditions. This test can be used for both preventive and diagnostic purposes.
FOBT is used as a screening test to check for the presence of disease in situations where there are no visible signs or symptoms. Occult bleeding in the stool can be an indication of colorectal cancer or other diseases of the colon and rectum.
It is recommended that all individuals over the age of 45 perform this test annually as part of preventive health measures.
The occult blood test can also be used to diagnose conditions such as gastrointestinal bleeding and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
