Milk is an essential source of nutrients, but it can sometimes be contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms that pose health risks. To ensure the safety and top quality of milk, whether breast or commercial, you can schedule a milk (Bact/Mic) analysis at the IntroLab laboratory in Belgrade and be confident in its purity.
When is the milk (Bact/Mic) analysis done?
The milk (Bact/Mic) analysis is typically conducted when there is a suspicion of bacterial or fungal contamination in the milk, whether it’s breast milk or milk sold on the market. If the mother shows symptoms of infection, such as mastitis, the analysis is recommended. It is also advised if there is a concern that the baby might consume contaminated milk.
Why is the analysis done?
This analysis aims to identify pathogenic microorganisms in the milk that could cause health complications. In the case of breast milk, detecting pathogens can help provide the appropriate treatment and prevent their transmission to the baby. For milk sold on the market, this analysis is crucial to ensure the quality and safety of the product, protecting public health.
Preparation for the analysis
For breast milk analysis:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before collecting the sample.
- Gently clean the breasts with a damp cloth to remove any impurities.
- Discard the first few drops of milk to eliminate potential contaminants from the surface of the breast.
- Collect the milk sample in a sterile container, usually provided by the laboratory or healthcare facility.
For commercial milk analysis, samples are taken from the original packaging under sterile conditions to ensure that the sample is not contaminated during sampling.
