Allergology
The horse E3 allergen test is a specialized test used to detect allergic reactions to horses. This reaction can be triggered by contact with horse hair, urine, sweat, or dander. Proteins from these sources can become airborne or settle on surfaces, causing allergic symptoms in sensitive individuals. The test is available at IntroLab in Belgrade.
Why is it performed?
This test is conducted when allergy symptoms appear after interacting with horses. Symptoms can range from mild, such as sneezing and a runny nose, to more severe, like difficulty breathing, redness of the eyes or skin, or even anaphylactic shock. The test helps confirm whether the symptoms are due to a horse allergy or another allergen.
Treatment
Treatment for a horse allergy may involve several methods. Symptom management typically includes antihistamines, which block the effects of histamine, a chemical the body releases in response to allergens. Corticosteroids can be useful in severe cases, as they reduce inflammation and swelling. If the allergy is serious or symptoms are hard to control, immunotherapy may be considered to reduce sensitivity to the allergen. Additionally, avoiding horses and places where they are present, such as farms and riding clubs, is a key part of managing the allergy.
