What is a glans swab (Bact/Mic)?
The Glans Swab (Bact/Mic) analysis is a diagnostic procedure in which a sample is taken from the surface of the glans, i.e., the tip of the penis, to test for the presence of various bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms. This analysis identifies potential causes of infections or inflammations in the urogenital region.
When and why is the analysis performed?
This analysis is most often recommended when there is a suspicion of infections or inflammatory processes in the urogenital area. Possible symptoms indicating the need for this analysis include:
- itching
- redness
- burning sensation
- unusual discharge
- pain
Additionally, this analysis can be part of a routine check-up, especially if you have a new sexual partner or have been exposed to the risk of sexually transmitted diseases.
Preparation for the glans swab
Before taking the sample, it is important not to apply local creams or medications to the glans area for at least 24 hours. It is also recommended to avoid sexual activity the day before the analysis to ensure the accuracy of the sample.
