Estrone E1 is one of the natural estrogens found in the human body. You can measure your estrone level at IntroLab in Belgrade.

What is Estrone E1?

Estrone is one of the three main estrogens present in the human body, along with estriol (E3) and estradiol (E2). Estrone is synthesized in peripheral fat tissue and the ovaries, and it can also be converted from other steroids, such as androgens, in the liver.

The concentration of estrone in the body can vary depending on gender, age, and other factors. In women of reproductive age, the ovaries are the main source of estrone, especially during menopause when the ovaries gradually reduce estrogen production. In men, estrone is produced in smaller quantities in the adrenal glands and testes.

When is the test performed?

The Estrone E1 test can be performed for various reasons, and the decision to test is based on specific clinical indications and symptoms that the patient may have.

Here are some common reasons for estrone testing:

  • Assessment of reproductive health: Measuring estrone levels can be used to assess hormonal balance in women of reproductive age. It can help evaluate ovarian function, identify possible hormonal disorders, or monitor the effectiveness of therapy.
  • Monitoring menopause: During menopause, the ovaries gradually reduce the production of estrogen, including estrone. Estrone testing can be used to monitor changes in estrogen levels during menopause and help determine the need for hormone therapy.
  • Evaluation of hormone therapy: For patients receiving hormone therapy, estrone testing can be used to monitor hormone levels and evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy. This can be important for achieving optimal hormonal balance and adjusting dosages.
  • Identification of hormonal disorders: High or low levels of estrone can indicate certain hormonal disorders or diseases, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or tumors. Estrone testing can aid in diagnosing and monitoring these conditions.

Preparation for the test

No special preparation is needed for the Estrone E1 test. If you are taking medications that can affect hormonal balance, it is ideal to take them two hours before the test to avoid potential impact on the results.
