Urine analysis
The Chlorides in 24-Hour Urine test is a specific urine analysis used to assess the amount of chlorides excreted in urine over a 24-hour period. This test is crucial for evaluating electrolyte status, acid-base balance, and water balance in the body. It is available at IntroLab, the leading laboratory in Belgrade.
What are Chlorides?
Chlorides are the most important anions in body fluids and are mainly found in extracellular fluid. They are filtered in the glomeruli of the kidneys and are passively reabsorbed in the tubules along with sodium. Chlorides play an important role in maintaining the even distribution of water in the body. They are also essential for maintaining osmotic pressure and the anion-cation balance in extracellular fluid.
Why are Chlorides Measured in 24-Hour Urine?
This test can be useful in diagnosing various conditions. This includes electrolyte disorders, acid-base imbalances, and certain kidney diseases. It can also help identify the causes of abnormal chloride levels in the blood, such as dehydration, kidney disease, diabetes insipidus, or Addison’s disease.
Notes
It is important to note that preparation for this test requires collecting all urine produced by the individual over a 24-hour period. The collected sample should then be brought to our laboratory for analysis. As with any comprehensive biochemical urine analysis, the results of this test should be interpreted within the context of the patient’s overall clinical picture. If you have any questions about this test, please consult your healthcare provider. Variations in test results can occur due to differences in laboratory techniques and equipment. Therefore, it is crucial that a specialist familiar with the specific laboratory where the test was conducted interprets the results.
Vrsta uzorka i vreme kada se uzima uzorak
Sample: 24 urine
Reverse time: 1 day
Preparation: Prepare a container for collecting 24-hour urine (determine if one or more 2-liter bottles are needed). Discard the first morning urine sample (do not collect it in the bottle). Collect all other urine samples throughout the day and night in the bottle. Add the first morning urine sample of the following day to the bottle and deliver the entire quantity of urine to the laboratory for analysis. For certain tests, a preservative needs to be added to the bottle first – consult the laboratory for specific instructions.
