The Brucella IgG At test detects IgG antibodies to the Brucella bacterium in the blood. Brucella is a bacterium that causes infections in domestic animals like dogs, pigs, sheep, and goats. In humans, IgG antibodies are produced in response to infection with this bacterium. The infection can be transmitted to humans through dairy products, unpasteurized milk, direct contact with infected animals, or inhalation of airborne particles. For testing, reach out to the team at IntroLab, one of the most trusted laboratories in Vračar.

Purpose of the Brucella IgG At test

The primary purpose of this test is to detect a Brucella infection. In the early stages, patients usually have high levels of antibodies, making detection straightforward. However, as the infection progresses, antibody levels decrease but do not disappear entirely, making detection more difficult. If Brucella infection is suspected, it is recommended to repeat the test after two weeks. The results are interpreted by a physician, along with a physical examination and symptoms.

Testing procedure

This blood test requires a small sample, typically just a few milliliters. A highly trained lab technician will draw blood, usually from a vein on the inside of the elbow. The procedure begins with cleaning the skin with an antiseptic. An elastic band is placed around the upper arm to make the veins more prominent. A needle is then inserted into the vein to collect blood, which is stored in a vial or syringe. The sample is then sent to the lab for further analysis.

Normal values

Antibodies are generally not present in individuals of any age or gender.
