The Beef Meat F27 analysis is a specialized test for nutritional allergens used to diagnose allergies to this type of meat. This test is particularly useful for individuals who have noticed symptoms of an allergic reaction after consuming beef or products that contain it. The test is conducted in laboratories, such as IntroLab laboratory in Belgrade, and involves blood sampling.

What is a beef allergy?

A beef allergy is a rare type of allergy that can cause symptoms such as:

  • Hives
  • Angioedema
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms

This allergy is associated with alpha-gal, a carbohydrate found in the cell membranes of mammals.

How is a beef allergy diagnosed?

Diagnosing a beef allergy can be challenging. In addition to a medical history and clinical examination, an allergen test for nutritional allergens is used. In our laboratory in Belgrade, we utilize the ImmunoCAP® fluorescence enzyme immunoassay (FEIA) system to detect specific IgE antibodies in the blood sample. The minimum required serum volume for testing is 0.5 mL, and the serum is obtained from venous blood.

Treatment and prevention

Currently, there is no cure for a beef allergy, but symptoms can be managed with antihistamines at home. In cases of anaphylactic reactions, immediate emergency care is necessary. Prevention includes avoiding the consumption of beef and products that contain it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the testing painful?

Testing involves blood sampling, which may be uncomfortable for some individuals, but it is generally not painful.

How long does it take to get results?

Results for the Beef Meat F27 analysis are typically available within 15 days of sampling.

Is it possible to be allergic to beef but not to other red meats?

Yes, it is possible. The allergens in beef are specific and may not necessarily be present in other types of red meat. However, if you are allergic to alpha-gal, there is a possibility that you may have an allergic reaction to other types of red meat as well.

Can children also undergo the test?

Yes, the test is suitable for children. However, it is recommended to consult a pediatrician before sampling.

What should I do if I have allergy symptoms after consuming this meat?

If you experience symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or gastrointestinal issues after consuming beef, seek medical assistance immediately. Also, consider having a blood test for the Beef Meat F27 analysis to confirm whether you are indeed allergic.
