Dr. Igor Švonja, MD

Dr. Igor Švonja is a medical doctor and specialist in clinical biochemistry with more than two decades of experience in medicine and laboratory practice. Over 22 years of professional work, including 17 in clinical biochemistry, he has gained extensive expertise in biochemistry, hematology, immunochemistry, hemostasis, immunology, allergology, body fluid analysis, and genetics.

He began his career as a general practitioner at the Health Center in Smederevo before specializing in clinical biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. He has worked at the laboratory of the General Hospital “Sveti Luka” in Smederevo, the central laboratory of Medigroup, and since 2023 he has been part of the professional team at IntroLab in Belgrade.

Professional activities and contributions

• Long-standing member of the Medical Chamber of Serbia, the Chamber of Biochemists of Serbia, and the Serbian Medical Society (SLD).
• Served ten years on the board of the SLD branch in Smederevo (2012–2022).
• Participated in the organization of continuous medical education “Smederevo Medical Days,” during which the branch received national recognition twice a year as the most active in Serbia.
• Member of the accreditation committee for the laboratory of the General Hospital Smederevo (2014).
• Lecturer at three accredited professional meetings in laboratory medicine:
  • “Routine Urine Analysis” (2016)
  • “POCT – Improving Access to Health Care Through New Technologies” (2018)
  • “Laboratory Errors” (2019)
