The anti-heart antibodies test is a specialized service provided by IntroLab in Belgrade. This test is designed to detect antibodies that attack heart tissues, potentially indicating the presence of autoimmune heart disorders.

What are anti-heart antibodies?

Anti-heart antibodies (Anti-Heart At) are specific autoantibodies that target proteins in heart tissue. Their presence can be associated with autoimmune heart diseases, such as rheumatic fever.

When is this test performed?

The anti-heart antibodies test is recommended in the following situations:

  • For individuals with symptoms that may indicate autoimmune heart disease, such as fatigue, chest pain, difficulty breathing, swelling in the extremities or abdomen, unexplained weight loss, palpitations, an irregular heartbeat, or a rapid pulse without a clear cause.
  • For individuals previously diagnosed with rheumatic fever. This test can help monitor therapy effectiveness and assess potential heart valve damage.
  • For individuals with a family history of autoimmune heart diseases. Since some autoimmune disorders are hereditary, this test can help identify the risk of developing these conditions.

Why do anti-heart antibodies appear?

The formation of anti-heart antibodies can be triggered by various factors, including infections, genetic predisposition, and environmental influences. The mechanisms by which these antibodies form and attack heart tissue are complex and still under extensive study.

How is the test performed?

This test requires a blood sample, which is drawn from a vein in the arm. The procedure is quick and generally painless.

Specifics of the test

This test is only one part of the comprehensive evaluation for patients suspected of having autoimmune heart disease. It should be used alongside other laboratory tests and clinical assessments.
