At IntroLab we offer the Anti-DNase B test, which helps identify previous streptococcal infections and their potential complications, such as rheumatic fever and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.
What is Anti-DNase B?
The Anti-DNase B test measures the level of antibodies to DNase B, an enzyme produced by group A streptococci. Group A streptococci cause infections such as strep throat, scarlet fever, and skin infections like impetigo. When the body encounters this infection, it produces antibodies in response, one of which is Anti-DNase B.
When is the test recommended?
The Anti-DNase B test is used when post-streptococcal complications, such as rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, are suspected. These conditions can appear several weeks after the initial infection. Elevated levels of this antibody indicate a previous streptococcal infection, even if symptoms have already resolved.
How is the test conducted?
The test is performed by taking a blood sample. The results help doctors diagnose post-streptococcal complications and guide further treatment.
Importance of testing
Timely testing allows for the diagnosis of serious conditions that can affect the heart, kidneys, and joints.
