Cervical Swab (Bact/Mic) is a crucial test for identifying gynecological infections. For accurate and fast diagnosis, you can schedule the test at IntroLab laboratory in Belgrade, where a team of experts is dedicated to your health.

What is a Cervical Swab (Bact/Mic)?

A Cervical Swab (Bact/Mic) is a diagnostic method in which a sample of cells and secretions is taken from the cervix to test for the presence of various bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms. This test is used to detect infections that can cause various gynecological issues.

A cervical swab can detect different infectious agents, including:

  • Bacterial pathogens, such as those causing bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia.
  • Fungal infections, particularly Candida species.
  • Other pathogens, such as Trichomonas vaginalis.

When is the test performed?

This test is especially important for women experiencing symptoms like unusual vaginal discharge, itching, burning, or pain, as it helps in accurate diagnosis and determining appropriate treatment. It can also be used during routine gynecological exams to check a woman’s overall health and identify potential risks.

Preparation for Cervical Swab (Bact/Mic) Test

For accurate and reliable results, it is necessary to follow certain instructions before sample collection:

  • 24 hours before the scheduled procedure, it is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse to ensure there is no contamination of the sample with semen or other fluids.
  • Vaginal creams, gels, douches, or any other treatments should not be used the day before the swab.
  • The optimal time for taking the swab is outside of the menstrual period. Menstrual blood can interfere with the analysis and lead to inaccurate results.
  • If the patient is on systemic antibiotic therapy, it is recommended to consult with a doctor before taking the swab, as antibiotics can affect the growth and detection of bacteria in the sample.

Proper preparation is essential to ensure the accuracy of the results and to identify potential pathogens or abnormalities.
