Salmon allergy is an immune system reaction to the proteins found in salmon meat. This type of allergy falls under nutritional allergens and can cause symptoms from mild to severe. Salmon is rich in vitamins, proteins, and omega-3 fatty acids, but consumption can trigger an allergic reaction in some people. This is why the salmon F41 analysis exists at IntroLab on Juzhni Boulevard—to help individuals with allergies combat them!

Why does a salmon allergy occur?

Allergies occur when the immune system mistakenly identifies salmon proteins as harmful. The main allergen in salmon is parvalbumin, a type of protein that is highly stable and heat-resistant. Because of this, allergens remain active even after cooking the fish.

Symptoms that indicate the need for the salmon F41 analysis

Symptoms of salmon allergy can include:

  • Mild symptoms, such as oral allergic syndrome and redness
  • Severe symptoms, like hives, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, angioedema, asthma, and anaphylaxis
  • In some cases, respiratory symptoms such as asthma, rhinitis, difficulty breathing, and skin rashes may also occur.

Prevention and treatment

The best way to prevent an allergic reaction to salmon is to avoid consuming this fish in any form.

How to determine the presence of an allergy?

A salmon allergy can be identified through the salmon F41 blood analysis, a nutritional allergens test. This test looks for specific IgE antibodies that react to the proteins in this fish’s meat. The analysis involves taking a blood sample, usually from a vein in the forearm. Testing can help identify the allergy even before symptoms appear, which is particularly important for individuals who have previously had allergic reactions to food.

Are there other ways to diagnose an allergy besides the salmon F41 analysis?

In addition to blood analysis, other tests can assist in diagnosing a salmon allergy. Allergy skin tests and elimination diets can also be helpful in addition to the salmon F41 analysis.
