At IntroLab in Belgrade, we offer highly specialized tests, such as the anti-RNP-70 test. This test is important for diagnosing and monitoring certain autoimmune diseases.
What is anti-RNP-70?
Anti-RNP-70 antibodies are specific antibodies that bind to ribonucleoprotein, a protein that plays a key role in processing information within the cell. Under normal circumstances, this protein is not accessible to the immune system. However, in certain autoimmune diseases, this protein can become accessible, leading to the production of anti-RNP-70 antibodies.
Why is measuring this parameter important?
Measuring these antibodies is important because these antibodies can indicate the presence of autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). These antibodies are particularly associated with MCTD, a condition that exhibits symptoms characteristic of multiple autoimmune diseases.
When should this test be performed?
This test is typically performed when there is a suspicion of an autoimmune disease based on the patient’s symptoms, such as:
- Fatigue
- Joint pain
- Muscle weakness or swelling
Additionally, this test may be conducted if other lab test results indicate the possibility of an autoimmune disease.
Specifics and subtypes of the test
Testing for anti-RNP-70 antibodies is only one component of the comprehensive diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. Your doctor may recommend additional tests, including those for other types of antibodies, to gain a complete clinical picture. These additional tests may include antinuclear antibody (ANA) tests, double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibody tests, among others.
