The uric acid test in 24-hour urine is essential for detecting and monitoring various conditions that can influence uric acid levels in the body. Uric acid is a byproduct of purine metabolism, which is a component of many vital substances in the body, including DNA and RNA.

Where can you get the uric acid in 24-hour urine test done?

This type of biochemical urine test is carried out by medical technicians at IntroLab, a private laboratory in Belgrade. Our experienced team is well-versed in performing a wide variety of tests, including the uric acid test in 24-hour urine.

When is the test indicated?

The test is typically indicated when there is suspicion of high uric acid levels in the blood, a condition known as hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia can cause various health issues, including gout, kidney stones, and certain kidney diseases.

Why measure uric acid in 24-hour urine?

This urine test is used to detect and monitor uric acid levels in the body. It is valuable for diagnosing and tracking medical conditions such as gout, kidney stones, and certain nephrological disorders. Additionally, it helps assess the risk of developing these conditions in individuals with elevated uric acid levels in the blood.

How long does it take to get results?

Results are typically available within one working day.

How to prepare for the test?

You need to collect urine over a full day. No special preparations are required, but it is important to collect the sample correctly.

Sample: 24-Hour Urine

Reverse time: 4h

Preparation: Prepare a container for collecting 24-hour urine (determine if you need one or more 2-liter bottles). Discard the first morning urine (do not collect it in the container). Collect all urine throughout the day and night in the container. Add the first morning urine of the next day to the container and bring the entire amount to the laboratory for analysis. For certain tests, you may need to add a preservative to the container first – ask the laboratory for specific instructions.
