The microalbumin test in a urine sample is a crucial test used to detect early kidney damage. Albumin is a protein normally present in the blood, and its presence in urine can indicate nephrological issues. For this important test IntroLab Laboratory Vračar is here to assist you.
What is Microalbuminuria and Why is This Test Important?
Microalbuminuria, a condition marked by abnormally high levels of albumin in the urine, is often an early sign of kidney damage in individuals with diabetes. This test is important for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as they have a higher risk of developing diabetic nephropathy, a leading cause of chronic kidney disease.
When is Microalbumin Measured in a Urine Sample?
This biochemical urine test is typically conducted during annual check-ups for individuals with diabetes or high blood pressure. It is also used to monitor disease progression in those already diagnosed with microalbuminuria or proteinuria.
How is the Sample Collected?
The test sample is taken from a single portion of urine. No special preparations are necessary, but it is important to collect the urine sample correctly. Test results will be available within one day and should be interpreted in the context of the overall clinical picture, including the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and other test results.
