Urine analysis
The 10-Panel Drug test is a comprehensive biochemical urine analysis used to detect ten commonly abused substances. This set of tests has become standard in many industries, particularly those where drug use could impact the safety of others. Consequently, healthcare workers, justice system employees, and government officials are often subject to drug testing.
What does the 10-Panel Drug test include?
This panel tests for the following substances:
How is the test conducted?
The test is most commonly performed using a urine sample, although other samples such as blood, saliva, hair, or sweat can also be used. For urine analysis, the patient is given a sterile container to collect their urine. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Detection time
The detection time for drugs varies depending on the type of drug, frequency of use, and individual metabolic characteristics. For example, marijuana can be detected in urine for several weeks in regular users, while in occasional users, THC may disappear from the system within a few days. Alcohol can also affect drug metabolism, leading to variations in detection time.
Interpretation of results
Test results are usually reported as positive or negative. A positive result means that the concentration of metabolic substances exceeds the allowable limit. A negative result indicates that the test did not detect drug use or that the substance was present below the allowable level. However, sometimes a test can be faulty, in which case it needs to be repeated.
